As some of you may know, we decided to run our DIY Digital Marketing Course for Small Businesses in Cardigan. We are now fully booked with an incredible 60 delegates and are only accepting people onto a waiting list. I thought it may be interesting for some people to know what we did to achieve this very cheaply.
We had a low budget for marketing and so decided to steer away from newspaper adverts and direct mail by post.
The plan was to undertake the following marketing activities:
1. Promote on Facebook using Advertising to Businesses in Cardigan
2. Send an email to our database and encourage the word to be spread
3. Print 1,000 flyers and distribute them by hand in and around Cardigan (Little did we know we would not need these!)
How things went
We only had just over 2 weeks before the event so we started with a Facebook post which we promoted to small businesses within 25 miles of Cardigan.
We then created an advert that linked to the booking page for the course and ran two adverts:
a) Small businesses owners within a radius of Cardigan
b) Anyone within 10 miles of Cardigan
Finally, we ran a remarketing campaign which targeted people on Facebook who had viewed the page about the course, reminding them to book.
Results
We had 5 bookings within the hour and 36 within 5 days. Over 400 people had visited the page.
We then turned off all Facebook campaigns apart from the remarketing one. Which we have now also turned off as we are fully booked.
Our email marketing led to many bookings but Facebook remarketing advertising helped convert bookings.
Total cost of Digital Marketing £34.78
What happened to the leaflets?
Basically they are still sitting here in the office! We don’t need them and will have to recycle them.
There is not a formula for Digital Marketing that fits every situation and every business. It requires intelligent planning and experience to get the most out of the technologies at that time.
